Give me MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) any time, and, before anyone starts leaping up and down, yelling "Lethal, carcinogenic," etc., it is not listed anywhere, in the USA, UK, or Canada, as anything worse than an irritant. Check out UN no. 1193. Here, in the UK., I can buy 5litres, straight over the counter, and it's sold, in 1litre containers, to plumbers, for cleaning plastic pipes before gluing with Dichloromethane mixtures (now that is dangerous, UN no. 1593, and the warning says "toxic.")

......i use thick CA glues as fillers and for attaching small parts to big parts, a white glue called WeldBond for clear parts and any of the thermobonding glues like Tenax 7R, ProWeld and/or MEK.......which the Tenax and ProWeld have in them................
Edgar, please don't think i'm being contrary to your post, however, MEK (methylethylkeytone) at least the ingredients listed on the containers in the U.S. IS toxic and IS considered a carcenogen and can be quite harmful if the fumes are inhaled as with ProWeld, Tenax 7R and the like..........
having been employed in aviation maintenance for a time, i've had the wicked pleasure of, on more than one occasion, useing MEK as a cleaner / bonding agent on the Learjet's horizontal stab's leading edges when replacing the de-ice boots................
it's quite possible and more than likely that today MEK when sold over the counter has been re-formulated to negate those effects since it is a great cleaning agent not unlike isopropyl alcohol.........................which i've just learned is illegal to buy in Northern Ireland...........

sorry for the long winded reply........

I use tube glue and am just now trying to get the hang of Tenax and Testors liquid glue. I haven't been very lucky with the liquid glues but I found out that I have been applying them incorrectly. I have to try it again now that I know the correct way.

cirikili...do you mean isopropyl alcohol is illegal to buy in Northern Ireland?

:P I've got in my box of glues that I like best:Micro Metal foil adhesive, Spezial-Kleber, also a metal foil bonding agent, Tamiya extra thin, Tenax-7R,Testers plastic cement, Micro scale Micro weld And Crazy glue.. I have a few tubes of glue too, but don't like the Blue non toxic.. I don't think it works as good! I have Elmer's white glue and a couple tubes of that G-S Hypo cement with the needle on the end for doing windows and canapee's..So the window's won't fog up!
... Guess I'm a collector of glue too... :o I'm really sick huh, a Plastaholic ?!

that it is Coldwar.................illegal, even by perscription........
i use it occasionally as a thinner for some of the acrylics i paint with and as a cleaner..............
no one will tell me why although i suspect it's got to do with the differences between the two factions here...........

I just stick with Revell (pardon the pun). The hypo cement for clear parts sounds interesting as Revell can make a of a mess with windscreens - as I know to my cost. Anyone know what it`s called in the UK?

Cirikili, you are probably dead on with your suspicion, but I would never even had thought anything about that before. That is interesting and shows how hard it is to imagine how other people live in this world.

How about it Weeeg? How come? Isopropyl alcohol is illegal to buy in Northern Ireland? What have you heard about why it's illegal there at your home town area??

I use Testors cement and super glue. I do occasionally use super glue for certain parts of the assembly but I use it mostly as a gap and seam filler. I've also used it to simulate weld beads on armor models although I haven't perfected the technique yet.
