While this may look a lot like a Shelby Cobra, it isn't. After production of the Shelby 427 Cobra ended, Ac decided they would continue production, but with out the expensive 428/428 motor, and with the narrow fenders that the first 427s wore (chassis# CSX3125 through CSX3158) Many of these over the years have been refitted with the later wide fenders. They were all fitted with 289 4bbl engines and wire wheels, and the rear exit exhausts of the street Cobras (no sidepipes).
These changes made for a less radical perfoming & looking car, bringing it back to the classic 50's sports car look of the original Ace, but with the handling and balance of the coil sprung chassis of the 427.
I used the Revell 427 "street" Cobra, tthe engine from the AMT 1967 Mustang, and wire wheels from Detail Master. Besides narrowing the the rear fenders the conversion was very straight foward. the knock-off spinners from the Revell kits wire wheels (which were inaccurate for the 427) are perfect for the detail master wheels. they even have the correct AC logo in thier center.
