Well, the car has been kept under wraps since the fiasco with the Daytona 500 body. The time has come to finally reveal what the finished product turned out to be. After literally a year of hard work on this car, it is now complete and ready to display. Most of you have followed along since this project's inception and know the troubles I went through trying to complete this car.
If there is one thing I learned above all else during the course of this project, it's how much we, as modelers, love to encourage and help one another. I was encouraged by so many people after setbacks discouraged me and left me wanting to chuck this car at the wall at 200 mph. The list is so long and distinguished and reads of so many awesome builders it boggles my mind as I sit here and think about it. Here is a list of those I'd like to thank for keeping my spirits up during the course of this "Extreme Headache Build" : First and foremost, Jeff Marsh tops the list. A year ago I knew of Jeff's work, but not of the man on a personal level. Over the past year Jeff and I have grown so close, not only as friends, but as family. Jeff has become a brother to me I never had and I am forever indebted to him for his constant encouragement as well as his help, tips, ideas, and all around advice concerning this project. I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt if it wasn;t for Jeff, this car would have never seen completion. Whenever I look at this car I see Jeff's hand in it just as much as my own. Other names come to mind...Clay Kemp, Dave Thibideau, Brian from the BAD Boards...your encouragement and tips were also appreciated more than you will ever know and more than words can say. The countless hours I spent with TJ from Modern Motorsports also sticks in my mind as well. Another strong friendship was forged with TJ through this project and I am truly grateful for his insight, and advice, especially concerning his Superspeedway noses and future projects. Others like Chris Kauffman, Digger, Billy Kingsley, Pat Redmond, Ray Buck...so many people were always there to encourage me when I was ready to trash this project. Iw ant to publicly acknowledge and thank each and every one of you for your kind words and help.
Another HUGE thanks to TJ for his unbelievable work in the resin casting business. I used so many of his parts on this car I've lost track to be honest. All I can say to anyone thinking of doing a build-up like this is, you have simply got to use TJ's parts. They are second to none in quality and are dream to work with. Secondly, John Schaefer's decals are simply the best, plain and simple. These MLB decals applied themselves, or so it seemed. This sheet was, by far, the easiest and best sheet I have ever worked with in terms of decals. Thanks to John for continually striving to put out the best decals on the market. Your efforts are not going unnoticed John. We all appreciate your efforts. Finally, a special thank you to my wife for keeping me calm when things were going wrong with this car. Her support and encouragement also kept me pushing ahead and testing my abilities probably more than they have ever been tested before in modeling.
I know I'm getting long winded here, but I want everyone to know how much of a part in this project they've had, whether they knew it or not. I actually look at this more like a community project than an individual effort. Again, thanks to everyone for their support and help. This car has become my most prized possession as it represents this hobby for exactly what it's supposed to mean, hobbyists appreciating one another and encouraging and sharing ideas to work for the common good. This is what the hobby is all about!
Now...on to the show!!!!!
