I had a freind who's dad passed away a few years ago and he was a model truck builder. Well he had alot of old Ertl truck kits built and His wife (my freinds mother) told him to get rid of the old things. Well he decided to use them for target practice. I was able to save 4 of the trucks before they were blown apart. I missed getting an original 4070A cabover and a Logging Truck that got blown into millions of pieces. The ones I did get are shown below.
This is the first one I rebuilt. It use to be a ugly green color and the cab was warped I had to use a Paystar cab to repair it. Most of the original parts were with it. Now its Orange with a black frame and I dechromed the wheels and painted them body color.
This is the second of the rebuilds. It is a Paystar 5000 Tractor that was painted Grey and chassis flat black. It was falling apart and had missing parts which I had in my parts box's. I repainted it white with dark blue chassis and put spoke wheels in the place of the disk type issued with the kit. I also added a Revell KW sleeper to the truck.
This is the third of the rebuilds. It's a Transtar II Cabover that was a basket case when I got it. The first of the next two pictures will show what I had to work with. The second picture is the finished product.
This is the fourth and final truck I got. It is still in the rebuild stage but mostly back together to give you an idea of how it will turn out. It was painted a deep maroon color with black frame. The frame was broke and missing the rear set of dual wheels and half the engine. I replaced the engine and repaired the frame and painted it orange. The cab has been repainted Yellow along with wheels, fuel tanks and battery box's. The original kit comes with one battery box but I had an extra and put it on the other side of the truck. I had spare wheels to replace the missing ones.
I love these old IH trucks and traded a coffee can of old marbles for these four trucks. How do you like them?
