Looking pretty good so far Bill. One of the issues with this kit is the gap at the turret ring to the hull, due to the overweight gun mount. It is even greater an issue when the aluminum tube is used. I would try dropping a fishing sinker into the turret bustle to bring the turret race down almost flush with the hull. I would also replace the broken grab handle over the r/s loaders hatch with a wire one.
As usual, your construction is superb. Is this going to be a DAK vehicle?
regards,
Steve

Hi Steve!! ;D Glad to have you back 4 sure! Thx for the advice, the grabhandle is supposed to be broken, you will see when it is all done, a round glanced off of that area and tore it in half. I have just read "Rommel's War in Africa" by Wolf Heckmann and James sent me this kit from his apparently "better supplied" LHS, so..it all ties in together to make a DAK AFV. Very good book, recounts some very weird and adventurous tank battles! Got quite a bit of humor in it also. Anyhoo, Mine will be modeled after one of 'em. Unfortuantly, all my books are World History and Ancient History. I do have some awesome books on airplanes but no books on AFVs' and their markings, colors, and general specifics. I am going to get some of those very soon. Anyway, the tank I am going for was like a traveling circus, LOL. An "old sweat" sergeant major was in command and they had everything including the kitchen sink on their tank! Ya, "the Gap"...heck, U no,the turret wouldn't even fit down in there in the first place Steve! I finally had to cut off the bottom insert piece under the floor. Then it fit fine, but has a tendency to "pop" up a little, ur weight idea just might be the ticket, but really, all I have to do is just push on it a tiny bit and it fits great. The only thing I had a prob with was the top to bottom hull join in the front glacis, it still didn't go right, I am going to have back up a bit and fill and sand that real quick, b4 doing my weathreing and pioneer tools . Oh, and the other bad thing is that I lost a hinge 4 the left side turret door, DRAT!!! Gonna have to see if I can make one outta a piece of sprue.
Have fun, Bill

So, you're going for the battle damaged war horse huh? Great concept, I just love those DAK Panzer IV's- I've got a PZ III waiting for me when I get back from Mexico. Man, the internet service is sure slow down here, it took about 2 minutes just to download the pics in this thread! Anyway, thanks for explaining the 'glitches for me. Unfortunately, I'll be here in "Aguascalientes" for the rest of the month, but I'll sure be itchin' to build when I get back!
regards,
Steve

Bill I love this build you've got going, and I'm totally glad that I"m not the only one having the problem with the top to front glacics fit. Thanks for the info on the turret ring!!! Sucks eh? heh, I guess I can't just NOT build, I mean man, I look at the box and it calls me. I got some more done on it, some of the pioneer tools, and to be honest, this time I'm not having any real trouble doing this kit (when it comes to PE) Nice thing about the tank I'm modelling is that they did some field mods and removed alot of tools and moved some around and what not! YAY... but yeah that top to bottom plate fit was disgusting! Thank god for muddy Russia!

Alex.. first of all, it's great to see you back!!! I'm building this kit also, and believe me it's not a walk in the park, I have been building models probably since before you were born and TURST me, this isn't an easy piece to work with. Though I am not trashing your modelling skills, but trust me, I would hold off on this model for a bit bro! I say this cause you'll probably want to quit modelling just because of this. However if you do get this kit, might I recommend you do a little at a time, build something else to take the edge off while you're working on this bad boy! You'll be glad you did!

This is looking good Bill. I just got mine and started it the other day and really was impresed with this kit. I haven't used the "Magic Tracks" yet so I don't know what I'm in for with those, I have a set of fruils for this but may save them for another project if these work out.
Looking forward to the finished project.
Mike
