I've been practicing my Zim technique on some junk kits and I've run into a recurring problem. I'm using R&J Products Zimm-it-rite putty and a Tamiya Zim tool. The problem is keeping the putty stuck to the plastic rather than the tool . Anyone got a trick or two to share?

First-rough up the surface as much as you can. If the putty is two part, reduce the amount of hardener, you will increase adherence and working time, and , obviously it will take longer to cure. Lastly dip the zim tool in water after every couple of divots.

Thanks Steve. The instructions say to lightly sand the kit part, which I'm doing, but you think I should really rough it up some then? Okay, I'll try it. It's two part putty and has about a two hour working time when mixed in equal amounts. I went a little light on the hardener once and it still hasn't dried hard. I'll try to rough up the surface a little more. Thanks again.
