Basic Airbrushing Info

One of the other forums I frequent constantly gets the same questions regarding airbrushes. Over and over variations of the same posts are made; What Airbrush Should I Get? How Do I Thin Paint? How Much Pressure Should I Use? What Compressor Do I Need?

Earlier this year I wrote several pages that document my personal preferences in these areas. Keep in mind that I do not pretend to be an airbrush expert, nor do I claim to have all the answers. These pages are my PERSONAL preferences, and yours may vary. If you feel that there is something that is missing on them or something that needs to be added let me know and I'll gladly add your observations and comments.

Another common question pertains to the types of paint, or more explicitly the question of Acrylic or Enamel. The link below is to a page on my site that contains some information written by a friend that goes into some detail about those two types of paint. It was posted on my site with his permission, and is a very informative article.

There is also another link that was written by a friend of mine. It pertains to the toxicity of paint and other chemicals that we are exposed to when modeling. The author is an Industrial Hygienist and he knows what he is talking about. I posted it on my web site with his permission, and in my opinion it should be required reading for every modeler

Yes these questions crop up daily and I use this rule in all my explanations:- What works for one does not neccessaly work for another.

Rob, your topic on airbrushing was one of the reasons that I thought I'd post links to these pages. Your topic was very well written and informative and I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth. For anyone who missed his post, Here Is A Link To It

You are absolutely right in that what works for one person does not always work for someone else. That is something that I tried to emphasize in all of my pages. Use other people's advice and input as a starting point, but everyone needs to find a method that works for them. There are no cut-and-dried "Rules" there are only "Guidelines" and finding "Your" way of doing things is always the best way for you. It doesn't matter if it is different from the way everyone else does things, all that matters is that it works.

I think that I am a good testimonial to these gentlemen, for the past 4 months or so I have been pestering Scott and now Rob and Scott ;D, he-he (i'm just a wicked little boy) and the single most important piece of advice that has come from it all, and the only thing you need to do no matter what you have or what you use is this:
