G'day,
This is a guide for making realistic rust, which can be applied to any AFV, Soft Skin, Ship or Submarine, in fact just about any model subject matter.
Ingredients:-
A:- Steel Wool B:- Jar or similar container C:- Water D:- Stirring Stick - for later use E:- Patience
How to:
Step 1: Put steel wool in jar
Step 2: Fill jar with water to cover steel wool
Step 3: Place jar in safe place Outdoors in a sunny area, or placed by a heater unit will speed up the process
Step 4: Stir the contents of both steel wool and water with a stick or stirer after a few days
Step 5: Repeat the above step 4 untill stiring the contents gives you your pure rust flacks
Application:
Applied by brush or cotton bud {Q-Tip to most}, to an area on your model subject. This can be done in several ways using, diluted PVA glue, gloss clear coats, or even thin brush on glues, to give some depth to the rusting effect apply a light black wash or use pastels, then finish your model with DullCoat or similar flat finishes - or whatever suits your modelling style.
I've tried this effect on several model subjects for simulated rust areas and 'Junor' has used the same principals on some of his model AFV's and Submarines.

This is a good tip. I have been using it for a few years now. Glad you posted it for all to see.
