Here is the method that I use to make sand bags in any scale you may need. The ones shown here are in 1/35 scale. 1. This is the product that I use. I purchase it in the plumbing section of my do it yourself store (Lowe's). 2.Next I cut a small piece with an old xacto blade. 3.I then knead the two part putty with my fingers to make sure that it is mixed properly. When it is a solid grey it should be ready. Note: Working time with this product is about five minutes so use a small piece and make a few at a time or it will set up and you will end up wasting some. 4.Roll out the putty to about the thickness of a thin pencil. 5.Cut the putty into approx 1/2 inch pieces. I flatten the piece slightly and use a sharp knife to make thin slits along the long sides to simulate the stitchings. I also press the surface of the piece with surgical gauze to give the appearance of burlap. I will press the gauze in two directions to make it look like it is burlap. 6.I place the bags into the position that I want and overlap them slightly and work fast while the putty is still soft. 7.Place the bags on the surface where you want them They will conform to the shape while soft so they work great on uneven surfaces. They will adhere to the surface as they set. The can be painted like any other part of the model.
