This is the third Mopar I am working on. I actually started this project about a year and a half ago after stripping it and starting over. This car was the original release in the "Metal-Glo" box that came with actual Turtle Wax to polish the metalic colored plastic. I originally started the kit back in 1989, if you can believe that. When I decided to re-do the body I had already painted, I went with the rare Moulin Rouge color that was available on these GTX's. The color came out dead on with this car and after I'm done foiling the trim, a final polish job should really bring out the shine. From what I can find, there were only 6 Moulin Rouge 70 GTX's made, and that's why I went with this color. I like building the rare cars. Amazingly, a couple months ago, I was actually lucky enough to see one of these 6 Moulin Rouge GTX's in person, albeit the car was in dire need of a restoration. What a lucky owner though!!! Anyways, I am doing my best to build this to factory specs and that's one reason why it's taken me so long to get this far. That, plus the fact I was missing several parts to this kit and have been collecting them over the past several months. Anyways, these are some mock-up shots I took a few days ago to get the overall look and feel of how the car is progressing. I still ahve to wire the engine and do some painting in the engine bay as well. I also have work to do with the interior and foiling to finish, but progress is being made, slow, but sure. Anyways, here are some pics of this project.

I got some more foiling done on this car this morning. There is quite a bit of chrome on these cars, that's for sure. I still have a bit more to do, but I got the rear window and passenger side roof rail and vent window foiled. I was relegated to Chrome Silver paint for the side emblems and "Plymouth" lettering on the rear valance panel between the taillights. I swear, I don't know how some people can succeed in foiling lettering like this! I tried, but what a nightmare. Hopefully I can finish the foiling job tomorrow and then I will post pics of the completed foil job. After that I will then start detailing under the hood and detailing the engine and drivetrain. I may still be able to add fuel and brake lines to this car as it sits right now if I don't glue any of the subassemblies into the chassis. Should be interesting to say the least. I will need to locate diagrams and info on how and where the brake and fuel lines were routed on this car though. No point doing it if it's not done right!

Thanks RC, I appreciate the kind words. I still have quite a bit to do on this car now that I've decided to add the chassis plumbing and so forth. But I am starting to work more steadily on it now and might have it done for the next MoM shindig. Hopefully I can finish up the foiling today on it and get back to work on the chassis detailing. It's getting there, slow but sure.

I did a little more work on the GTX last night. Ya know, when I originally started this project all those years ago, I was happy to just build these cars box stock with maybe a little wiring added for realism. Amazing what a few years and new experiences do to one's ability to just build a box stock kit, huh? Enter this current project. I had just planned on adding some plug wires and maybe some heater hoses to add some more realism under the hood. However, as I was staring at the engine I started building up a couple weeks ago, I said to myself, "Self,(that's what I call myself most of the time), am I going to be satisfied with just some plug wires and heater hoses?" I knew I wanted to add more than that to this kit, especially with the body and foiling turning out as good as it did. Sssoooooo..with that being said, I dug into my books and magazines and began planning the mods I wanted to represent from the 1:1 440 engine. I am nowhere near done with the detailing portion of it, but I have gotten a little done. The fuel lines from the pump have been routed to the 3 carbs and I am now in the process of adding the vacuum lines. I will add the linkages next most likely, if I can make them look realistic enough. I will also wire the distributor and other electrical components too. I still need to fabricate an ignition coil to mount on the passenger side of the intake manifold as well. Slowly this subassembly will come together though as I am taking my time. It took me 3 nights just to fabricate the 3 fuel lines to the carbs, so it's tedious work to put it mildly. I am enjoying this though and am looking forward to seeing the completed powerplant mounted between the fenders in the next few weeks. Anyways, here are a couple pics of what I've gotten done so far! Hope y'all enjoy. Any and all comments are welcome, as always.
