Great photos of a great bird, Sean. The Vulcan has such a graceful design, way ahead of its day. For a plane designed in the late 40's and first flown in the early 50's it just puts the rest of the bombers of its day to shame as far as style goes. According to "The Register" you can buy one for £6k! It may have been sold by now, but Here Is A Link to the article.

Yeah that's the lane that sold on Ebay for £25,000, looks like the guy never picked it up , The Vulcans awesome , I remember Fredrick Forsythe (famous writer) saying when he was in the RAF He was in a Vampire one of these passed him then went into a verticle climb , and left him for dust

It isn't the Duxford Vulcan that's being worked on for flight; that honour goes to XH558, based at Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire. Edgar Brooks

Pray that the CAA don't, finally, kill it, then. Their proposal that all jet engines, above a certain age, are out of life, could kill all privately owned jets. Hopefully, with the industrial backing they've got, the Vulcan won't be affected. Campaign Against Aircraft are still at it! Edgar

Great pics Sean, thanks for sharing them As for the vulcan that is/was for sale at Blackpool, i had a good look around her about 20 years ago and she was in a very bad way then, with some of the skin peeling and blistering out (it is 3 layers thick in places and almost impossable to repair economically), the tyres/tires were shot with cracks in them that would have made inflating them downright dangerous, the oleos had collapsed and the wing tip was at eye level (and i'm 5 ft 6 so no giant) i was allowed into the cockpit - or rather, what was left of it, there was hardly any instrumantation left and what was there was smashed, as were some of the cockpit glazing and the quarter windows were left open to the elements ( i did shut them before i climbed out but i bet they were soon open again) the control columns had been hacked off and were missing too, basically even the cockpit wasn't worth saving due to vandalism and the structure then after sitting in the salt atmosphere for so long was already serverly weakened. the structure did infact become so dangerously decayed to the stage where moving the airframe would have probably caused it to collapse. its no wonder the buyer pulled out of the deal. sorry to say it but the best thing to do with the aircraft is to scrap it, there was not much there worth saving. even the engines would have been sevearly corroded.
all the best.
Greg
