AMT 1961 Ford Galaxie

I just left my two cents on the AMT vs. Revell/Monogram thread so I guess I better back it up with an AMT that I'm proud of. This started out as the repop of the 61 Ford Galaxie. We know it's a curbside and pretty crude at that so enter the donor kit, the AMT 1960 Ford Starliner. I first cut the hood from the 61, thinned it and added underhood bracing. I then layed out a plan for adapting the 60 frame, floor pan and interior to fit the 61. Surprisingly AMT got the dimensions pretty close because there wasn't a huge amount of work needed. The car was finished with Boyd's dark red, buffed out and cleared with Future. The bumpers were dechromed, sanded smooth and finished with Alclad. All of the body trim was done with Bare Metal Foil. The beauty rings, baby moons and antenna were machined from aluminum and polished.

Beautiful Galaxie. I took one of these and grafted the Sunliner roof on it and left the rest of it box stock. I did use MCG scripts and flock the interior. It is a gift for my aunt; replica of her first ever car. She used to take me into town on Saturdays with my lawn mowing money and my first stop was either Ben Franklin 5&10 or Roses to buy a model.

First -rate model. I have been sitting on a '61 Ford for years, not knowing what I want to do with it. It is a very simple and crude kit, but you have taken it and shown one with quite a bit of potentual.
