Entered a modeling contest held yesterday at Hobbytown USA in Amherst NY...Placed 3rd in armor with a Tamiya WW2 Jeep and 4th in Sci-Fi with a Reaper CAV figure! This is the first time I have ever won or even placed in several contests I have entered over the years...Man does it make ya feel good to see your stuff in the "winners" cabinet! Just had to tell somebody.

Did it again today. Entered a "national modelers club" contest. Lost Ugly. The trend seems to be not if you can build models right with correct colors, markings, and solid building techniques but how many after market photo etched/resin/aluminum can you add that wins contests. I was almost ready to sell ALL my stuff on eBay on the way home but the Mrs. talked me out of it. What ever happened to I can do all this stuff on a budget and still make a decent build? why is it all about how much of this kit can I replace? I doubt I will be darkening their door next year with my rookie entries.

Well Yankee, Youve won "First Place" with that Wife of your's! You've got a super lady at your side...It is sad that after market stuff has started to dominate the model Contest's and you'll have to except it or don't go to that kind of model contest again.. We won't judge your model on MOM because of how much aftermarket goodies you've put onto your model, but on what you've put into it on your own skills....Good luck in the future and give your Lady a big kiss for being there For and With you with your Models..Lots of Guy's here would love to have a Wife like her!... ... Yankee - hang in there! If you decide to enter a contest (on any level) you have to accept the possibility of "winning" or "losing". No one, regardless of how skilled they are, deep their pockets are, skilled and deft of hand and eye, wins every single time. Models are judged by people, with their own combination of talents. Some need to be told what you did to your model, where other experienced modelers can readily see it. Some will never understand what you tried to replicate. Some are only interested in voting for their friends. It (the horror stories) go on and on, and I've seen it all over the years and won't bore you with it.
What ultimately matters is that you build what you like - and you like what you build!
