I rebuilt an old "model" Thursday and Friday. It is an Enfield .303 No1 MkIII* that was built in India. It turned out pretty good. I am still going to have to clean some cosmoline off that I missed and perhaps touch up some places. I can't wait to take it out for a "test drive"! So, without further ado...

Ha ha ha...I'll keep that in mind cdntanker25. They are fun. One of them was a sporterized version and packed a bit of a wallop, much more than the full wood No 1 MkIII. I haven't shot a No 4 MkI yet, but I hope to get the chance soon. I heard the No 5 really has some thump to it as well. I really don't see how it could be worse than a sporter .303 or the Mauser 98k. Do you get to shoot much? Jerry

I didn't when I was living on Long Island, but my father inlaw and I would travel upstate to do some shooting.. he has a springfield that I bugger around with.. I'm more of a pistol guy really... but I've fired a few weapons in my day...

Do you mean the '03? I haven't shot one of those. I've messed around a little with the Garand...nice weapon there. I own a few rifles, I have an FAL that I really like. I have a few pistols as well. I am hoping to get some more shooting in...my parents just bought 53 acres and there are some nice places with good backstops. My Dad is ready to go shooting too. I'm going to make a WAG that you were in the military. Jerry

I thought so. Your screen name was my first clue and then you said you fired a few weapons in your day. Did you mostly use a pistol to qualify with as a personal weapon since you were in armor? I was in the USAF and stationed at Loring AFB in Maine. Beyond basic training I never fired anything for the military...only my personal stuff. Plenty of room up there in Aroostook County to shoot without worrying about hitting anything. I was in communications while I was in.

I had to qualify for .45 and C6 and C7. We had the Canadian versions of the M16 as a weapon stored in the tank. We also had to fire the C7 which is similar to an FN 7.62, a great little anti personel weapon, but a little risky as the loader had to stick his head out to use it! You were USAF eh? my dad was USAF, and joined up in Maine... he went to the Academy and became a pilot, he flew F-4E Phantoms in Vietnam.

Did you use the Colt .45 auto? Is the C6 a squad automatic? I got to shoot the M16 in basic and have fired a few AR15s since I have been out. I have an FN FAL (Austrian STG58) in metric pattern - the Canadian military used the FAL in inch pattern, is the correct? I really like it, it is a great rifle. It took the place of my AK when I go out shooting. I still take the AK and SKS out a bit but you would normally find me with the FAL. Where in Maine did your father join? I liked Maine but it was tooooo cold for me. I always like the F-4, a very aesthetically pleasing plane. I had an uncle who was stationed at An Loc in 67-68. He told me that it was some rough stuff over there. I would love to have flown, but I wasn't disciplined enough...kind of a bit of a rebellious sort. Many thought my main job was drinking and the I just did the communications thing as a hobby. My title was Alcoholic Beverage Quality Assurance and Consumer Techician. I finally got straightened out after I met my wife though.
