.......... I have gotten a little bit done on my attempt to recreate John Keeling and Jerry Clayton's magnificent California Charger front engine top fuel dragster ........... what I need right now is some clear and dry weather to apply some light blue pearl paint on a bunch of body panels ........... isn't going to be this weekend, as we are enjoying cold and rainy conditions I'm using the Revell California Charger kit as the basis for the build .......... however, the only kit body pieces which are going to be used are the lower nose piece and the driver's compartment floor .......... all the others are going to be Competition Resins pieces ........... they are much truer to scale and I think they look better ............... also am using competition resin parts to correct the engine (kit still thinks the 392 's had their distributors at the right front which is dead wrong) and the kit injector scoop is way too tall ............. using pictures sent by Jerry Clayton to route the fuel lines and linkages (again the kit is not correct) ............. using Halibrand "5 hole" wheels as the wheels supplied in the kit were only run on the car once according to Jerry ..... and they collapsed on that run ................ also using Comp resins parts to correct the fuel tank and oil pan as the kit parts are not correct either Hopefully the weather situation will improve and the construction can get back to full speed (which for me is slightly above a crawl) Thanks for looking John

.............. heading to the primer booth this afternoon ............. finally got a decent day to paint (humidity less than 500% and winds less than 30 mph) ........... actually a pretty nice day here ................ going to use Cobracolors Moon Mud as the primer since all but one of the body pieces is resin rather than styrene ............ I believe the results are better that way .................. after primer sanding and smoothing ............. and hopefully some color coats next weekend The only pieces not "installed" in the mock-up are the rear side pieces (resin) and the lower nose piece (styrene" ............. Roger Keltz at Competition Resins puts out beautiful pieces ........... no major adjustments needed .......... just some trimming and sanding and everything lines right up Back from the "paint booth" ............ everything went great ............. a couple of days drying time, some sanding with some #8000 grit and we'll be ready for some color coats
