Hi Guys ... major project ...
I would like to build an early American drilling rig, either oil / water, using the 1:16 scale Academy / Bandai Ford Model 'T' or Model 'A' as a donor kit to build a tractor unit, and scratchbuilding the tower as a gin trailer.
One of the conversions I will have to undertake is the upgrading of the chassis, rear axle, drive train, suspension and wheels of the vehicle, but the main build will be the drilling rig. I got the upgraded wheels / suspension and axle for the truck from Jan Mostek at the IPMS/UK Nationals last weekend, superb castings.
I'm looking for any photographs or plans that will show the type of vehicle and rig and how it was transported, can anyone point me in the right direction for suitable reading material?
This build will hopefully be done for the IPMS/UK Nationals at Telford in November 2006.

Thanks Ken. The truck won't be too much of a problem, I have 1:16 scale drawings for a Ford 'AA' heavy duty truck. I also have a set of resin wheels, axle, and suspension conversion parts which I purchased from Jan Mostek at the recent IPMS/UK Nationals, these parts update the Academy Ford 'A' Pickup Truck.
Once the truck chassis is constructed, I still have the choice of either log hauler gin trailer or drill rig exploration trailer, but I'm inclined to build the drill rig. I have a friend in Canada who knows someone who has been in the oil exploration business all his life and he may have the details and plans I need. Failing that, it's a case of search through the archives for a suitable idea.
I'll keep you informed of the build. Incidentally, I followed your trailer build with interest, nice rig!
