Hi All, I`m hoping to add a self contained fork-lift truck to my 1:24 brick trailer. Have any members done this, and if so, where is the best place to buy one? I`d prefer a kit but I have a feeling that I may have to settle for a ready built one. Thanks, as usual for any help. Jim

Hi Jim..... When your talking about a self contained fork lift truck, are you talking about one that is to be towed so it can be used to load or unload a truck or a trailer on a job site? Or a fork lift thats in a yard or at a job site to be used for the same purpose?....We have a small Slang barrier between us even though we speak the same language.. ha,ha......like your COE and our Cab Over tractor or truck and our Conventional tractors and trucks.. You've said different ways of saying the trucks and trailers and tractors and trailers..So I want to make sure I'm understanding exactly what your meaning "Self contained fork lift truck"....We call them fork lifts!.....The self contained has me confused.....If your wanting a regular fork lift to load or unload the brick trailer I think you'll have to go with a Die-cast model...You can buy one at Caterpillar heavy equipment rentals if you do have heavy equipment rentals there.... Good luck....If your planing it behind your trailer remember your restrictions on length...It's 70ft here it will be a set of Doubles then, two trailers....You should be okay with your set up you have now.... Over here! I don't know about over there.. "RC"

Hi RC, Sorry to have been so vague on my discription. I was talking about the mini fork-lifts that are carried on the back of the trailer. I see one near home at least a couple of times per week and thought it would look rather cool on a model. The trailer would have to be scratch-built because the rear axles appear to be set further back than normal. The following link is rather neat as it shows a short clip of one being unloaded in 60 seconds. www.piggy-back.com/gnrltrcktlrreq.html JIm

Oh...Okay our "Home Depot" stores carry their forklift's that way on their truck's and Ive seen them on Sod trailers when their delivering grass rolls for your lawn or landscaping... It's a home center that has all the "Do it your self supply's" they deliver to your home or building site and unload for you...I have no idea where you'd find anything like that in any model form...Good luck and good hunting..I some times think the hunt to find something is more fun than building.... You can always go to towing one behind a trailer or truck....The one with the large road tires& wheels....Before we bought & installed the on board fork lift like you have on your brick trailer now,It had a fork type hook up to off load our tubing one bundle at a time not the set up yours has to lift off crates, we use to rent a fork lift and tow them to the job sites, then return them after we had off loaded/unloaded our tubing...
"Good luck & happy hunting!"......."RC"
