Hi All, My Western Star Wrecker is taking shape at last! I just don`t seem to be able to put the hours in on it. At this rate I`ll be a 100 before I reach the bottom of the `ready to be started ` pile. Goodness only knows why I still look on eBay for new ones every day. more photos to follow when the body is built. Jim

Amazing photo's!...."Not much to show for 4 weeks work" Are you kidding?! The work you've done on the frame and engine is perfect! This is why your models look as good as they do!..... You don't just slam them together!.... I use to think "I don't have the patience to do this!".... But once I got started working on my model, you get so involved that, to others, your working on it for ever.. And now I'm hearing "How do you have the patience to do that?" I think what you've done in 4 weeks is amazing to my eye's and what you've done is perfection....No wonder your models are Eye Candy to fellow Modelers, wishing they could accomplish what you do.....Besides your not in a race to finish first!.....Your really a perfectionist when it comes to detail and it really shows in your modeling skills....I do envy your talent!!..... RC, Any more comments like that and I won`t be able to get my head through the door, thanks a lot anyway. Have you heard the old saying that`Pride goes before a fall`? Well it sure applies here. The two standard chrome fuel tanks on this model have to be shortened by about 50% (removing the centre sections). I have somehow managed to get glue onto the chrome and they look a real mess. The last resort will be to rub them down and paint them - I REALLY don`t want to have to do that. I think I`ll leave the decision until after the body is mounted and then see what damage is still visible. Don`t you just hate it when things like this happen? Jim

Hi, Jim... Just a suggestion..... Remove the chrome, shorten the tank's......Paint the tanks gloss Black like your frame!.. Or you can re-chrome the tanks yourself with Alcad II.....(If you have alcad II there)...This Alcad II is wonderful and looks Better than the Kit chrome!!....Prime the tanks, Wet sand.... then paint the tanks Gloss Black...Let them sit for a few days/week!.. Until completely dry... Then shoot a coat of Alcad II....
Really beautiful Chrome job!..I practiced with a few junk parts until I was compleatly comfortable using it....
You stated that the tanks have to be shortened by about 50% (removing the centre sections). Don't cut out the fill hole or cap...You won't be able to fill the tanks back up with fuel..ha,ha.... Have fun & good luck..."RC"

We often have Alcad on eBay over here. I`ve thought about trying it but never spoken to anyone who has actually used it. If you`r delighted with the results, then that`s good enough for me. I`d better get bidding. I`ve read a couple of articals on how to apply it (black base coat first). I`ll take your tip and try a couple of junk pieces first. Thanks for the info. By the way - the filler caps were at one end of the tanks. Jim

Ha,ha...That was a joke!!....You'll notice I said:Or you wont be able to fill the tank's back up with fuel! ha,ha..
Good luck with the Alcad II once your comfortable with it you'll be dumping the kit Chrome and using it full time..I mucked up a front bumper Like you said with Glue too.. I didn't want to buy a new kit just to replace the front bumper..I talked to my LHS owner who turned me on to the Alcad II... I was really afraid of using it ! He advised me to Practice on a old piece of junk and to keep practicing till I was comfortable, really comfortable using it and after 3 or 4 try's I liked what I'd done and now I don't worry about messing up the chrome... I hope you can find it and like it too....You need to use it in a well ventilated area.... And use Enamel gloss Black under coat after priming and sanding to super smooth...If not the Alcad II will melt the plastic!! Have fun & good luck..... "RC"

Thats really coming along beautiful. If you think you build slow, I'm lucky to be able to get that much done in a month. I've got to tell you, looking at your work is a real treat!

Thanks a lot for that Dan. Progress is even slower at the moment. I`ve got a load of decking/paving to complete in the garden and that is leaving me with almost no time at all to spend on the models. To say that it`s really frustrating is an understatement. Jim

This forum is the nearest I`ve been to modelling in the last couple of weeks. The patio I`m laying is taking every spare moment I have. My Western Star has the engine and cab mounted now, but that`s as far as it`s gone. I still have the body and wrecker gear to start yet. At this rate I may get it entered in the December MOM - if I`m lucky. Jim

Oh! I'm so happy I'm single and live alone..ha,ha.ha..no Honey do this and honey do that ..I hated honey do's......About the time I'd get finished with three jobs she had for me and I'd go into my garage to MY icebox and pop a top on a Ice cold can Budweiser beer, She, I swear could smell the beer or hear the top being popped open and out that back door she would come with another honey do list to do...I was so happy when Monday Morning came, so I could go back to work and get some rest and sleep!! I'd go in early, tie down my load Punch in at the time clock as I was pulling out of the yard... hurry to get to my unloading site and drop the trailer, pull away from it about 5 feet and untie the load, put my straps or chains away and leave the paper work in the mail shoot, I'd get in the cab, stretch out across the dog house, Feet out the window, jacket under my head and snore till they woke me when the load was off loaded and time for me to go home!... Yes sir..I remember those good old days ha,ha....Here... let me pop a top for ya Jim...You can come hide from her here!....

Hi, Weeeg, Tell me more about this pen. Is it ink of felt-tip? The wrecker I`m building at the moment has a load of lockers in the body and the box art shows all the outlines picked out in gold. Is this pen just what I`m looking for to do this job?
