Hi All, I`ve brought this thread up from `OFF TOPIC`, because it had strayed into truck territory. RC, Over here we call those tyres (tires - to you LOL), `Super Singles`. My latest trailer has them (as shown in the photo) and what a headache that caused! The spare wheel carrier contains a winding mechanism for lowereing the wheel to the ground and is attached to the side of the chassis. The carrier fitted beautifully......... then I discovered that the wheel simply wouldn`t fit on it. Apparently the kit was for the standard twin wheels but they had simply replaced the wheels and tyres to bring the kit up to date (forgetting to modify the carrier). Anyway - with the help of my bits-box the problem was soon solved. Jim

We also have those Tires! Tyres to you! LOL... No! These guys were as wide as the two tires on the rims mounted together! They looked like a Huge Racing Slick's with Grooves! And really Deep Dished Rim's, they were painted! But had they been chromed would have looked so Awesome!! On both the flat Bed & Refer trailers they were painted...The tires had to be at least 3' wide...."RC"

Hi Jim
Super Single's spares are usually on a rack which they sit in. They are not normally carried on a carrier like you've described. I'm trying to remember the width of the tyres now....
Sorry can't remember, I'll look at my trailer tomorrow and post the sizes when I get home.

Thanks for that Mick. Revell obviously wanted to update the model but no doubt decided re-tooling just for a carrier would be too expensive. I hate to think what the gear ratio would have been for getting one of those off the ground, just using that small hand wheel. Jim

Hi Jim
Just realised I left the piece of paper with the tyre measurements in the cab tonight. I think you'll find most UK companies don't order trailers with spare wheel carriers now. Drivers are not allowed to change the wheels on lorries anymore. It's all because of this interfering bunch called "The Health & Safety Excecutive". But continental companies still have them fitted.

Hi Mick, don`t get me started on the Health & Safety issue. I gave up when they said that policemen shouldn`t chase criminals - in case they hurt themselves !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
