Small springs in models have unlimited uses for details, Heres how I make mine. Basically I take any wire that has thin copper strands inside of it, the thinner the better, and strip it.
Then I take a long length of one of those copper strands and just start wrapping it around the proper diameter drill bit.
Bunch it together and continue wrapping, pretty soon you've got a nice spring.
One of the things I like to use them for is scissor hinges.
Another good idea is the hood release spring on some cars, Another use I've thought of is for the throttle return spring.

Great tip. I have always collected small springs when I came across them; now I can make my own. Thanks.
