In the sand sculpture department of Hobby Lobby were all these colored packages of very very fine sand.
I looked at it closely and then it hit me. It looks like those tubes of "fuzz" we use to make carpet.
I bought the black sand and just finished testing it on an old 40 Ford interior. It looks great!!
An 8oz. package is .99 cents.
I poured it out of the package into a sandwich bag. I used white glue on the surfaces I wanted to "carpet" then put the interior tub into the bag and shook it to cover the glue. Remove the tub and shake off the excess sand and there you have it.
The sand comes in different colors most of which are very bright almost neon.
The black, tan and white have a flat look to them. The white is full of impurities but you could make it work.
Give it a try!!

Sounds like a great idea! I'll have to give it a try, Hobby lobby also sells model master brand flocking but at a much higher price and not all hobby lobbys stock it. This sounds like a great alternative! Thanks for the tip!

You could paint the sand, after the glue dried, with acrilic paint, and get any colour you want.

I would think it would have to be Craft sand or really fine sand as regular sand would be like Rocks on the Carpet......

Sounds great. I've used the "fuzz" in the tube before so I'll have to give the very very fine sand a try real soon Hummmmmm....maybe the sand could also work for making a vinyl roof top I've used that vinyl roof spray before with not the best results
