How do you achieve a better looking sand bag other then purchasing some commercial ones?

I make mine out of plumbers epoxy putty. I get it from our local home improvement store. If the bags will be seen as in a bunker. I will texture them with a piece of bandage gauze to give the appearance of being made of burlap. I take a piece of the putty and roll it out to the thickness I desire and cut the pieces. I then flatten the rolled pieces a little bit and place them into position. The beauty with making them this way is that they will conform to the shape of the object that they will placed on (on top of tank, truck etc).
