Finished this one up yesterday...What an interesting build, to say the least!
I'll let my Fotki Captions work for captions here as well!
This is built using the Palmer kit (!) that is actually quite good for Palmer, I would say their best effort ever. I discovered however, well into the build, that I did not get the front suspension when I bought it. I ended up using the lowrider suspension parts from Revell-Monogram's 1978 El Camino, as the parts fit (mostly) and were still on my table from 4 builds ago. I ended up having to scratchbuild a bracket for the front suspension and adding bits of plastic, taken from the kit's chrome tree, to the rear suspension to get it to sit just right!
The paint is House of Kolor neon Chartruse, my first really neon car. It was a flat color, like all neons/flourescents are, and it was given a coat of Testors clear. I figure the yellowing affect will be a moot point on a yellow car. Sorry it's blurry but it's the most accurate portrayal of the actual paint!
The build was built to look like a car that you would see at the Adirondack
Nationals car show in Lake George NY.
I don't mean to brag, but I am REALLY proud of the brightwork on this build. The entire front and rear bumpers had to be BMFd as the chrome was shot, (hey, the kit is 35 years old!) and the Stingray lettering on both sides was done after the car was painted, but before clear. I also BMFed the flags on the nose, the vents, the window trim, the gas cap and the taillight reflectors.
Because the chrome was bad, I replaced most of it with parts box items. I did BMF the bumpers, and paint the shifter, but the rest was replaced. The wheels, tires, suspension, runninglights in the grill, and liscence plates all came from the parts box. I built up an engine for it, only to discover that it would not fit under the hood. I raided the parts box for MOST of the engine, and even gave it a machined aluminum aitr cleaner from Scale Repro's Plus. I have a plan for the engine though...
See it in Toledo at the NNL Nationals next month!
