i had forgotten all about this little gem in my spares box, the question this time isn't should i but is this one possable, there are a few parts missing from the undercart, it needs a new prop and there is one of the blisters missing. what do you think of the chances of a successful re-build, would i be wasting my time trying?. i have the decals and instructions still so that isn't a problem. also how about availability of this kit?. can it still be had? over to you. cheers. You could try to get a Revell Catalina kit. It would have the parts you need.

good idea, thanks DB, well, initial strip down has revealed that the two side blisters are not handed so i will be able to use the remaining one to mold new ones. there are some struts missing from the main gear that can be made from streched sprue, the nose leg and wheel are missing so its rummage through the spares box time (sure i saw something usable), the interior is a mess so there will be plenty of work there. and if i remember rightly the props are the same as the DC3/Dakota so that shouldn't be a prob as i scrapped an ESCI one yesterday and kept the engines and props. so far so good. an asside, i seem to remember getting this kit as i moved up into mid school, that will make it just as i turned 9yrs old, that makes this model just over 31 yrs old if i'm right.

Greg,
Check the Academy 72 scale PBY 5a Catalina kit, as they would have greater availablity than the one you are rebuilding. Personaly I wouls build it and display it proudly, regardless of the refit, I've done this to some of my 48 scale birds in the past.

ok Guys, i'll take pics of the strip down and post them here, then do a blow by blow of the rebuild, i will be doing this "old school" with no after market parts. just the kit, plastic sheet and streched sprue. looking back i don't remember my modeling skills being so bad (not that they are all that good now).
all the best.
