G'day, The 48 ARRI [aka Airfix] Spitfire Mk VIII in 79 Sqn RAAF markings, when based on Moratai in 1945. AeroMaster 'Warbird' enamels and AeroMaster decals make up this strange and unique cammo scheme, [This kit under the Airfix label is in SEAC markings], this is now owned by the OTS of the RAAF and are the only two pix I have of this subject.

I never knew that the RAAF had so many paint scheme variations. I really like this one.

Dave,
Out of 76 aircraft types used during the war either in the European, or the Pacific the RAAF had some variations of schemes on several different aircraft types, there are some Spitfires flown on ops in overall Green, a C-47 was flown around New Guinea dropping supply's for several months that was patched in 3 different paterns along with the factory finish. I have a pic of a side view of it in a book, I'd like to build a subject of it in the near future.

Darren,
If you wish to build this scheme on a Spit, it's Interior Green/RAF Dark Green over RAAF Sky Grey with the white leading edge and tail, I'll do some scrounging and see if I can come up with a set of decals for this bird, the words under the Pink Elephant read "HAVAGOJOE".

Rob great Spit. I think either aeromaster or eagle strike has a decal sheet with this color Spit on it or one very close to it

John,
AeroMaster did a 48 sheet for this scheme, the Eagle Strike sheet is for 72 scale

That really is interesting, Rob. I haven't seen that variation either, but since I tend to focus on jets that's understandable. The finish on the spinner is so flat it almost looks like it's fabric coated or something. Very nice subject.

Scott,
The Spit was built some years ago and displayed in a shop, the RAAF's O.T.S. had it on loan for 18 months, [waiting for their 'Caldwell' Spit to be built], during which time they hassled me to include it as their subject of choice.
