G'day, Here are two 48 scale birds built as part of the RAAF contract and both are wartime Australian Productions from the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation factory, both are unique to the RAAF's history of WW II. Neither of these are built by me, the significance of these is they are both flown by the same pilot at different times of the Squadrons deploymentFirstly: The CA-12 Boomerang this is a Falcon full resin kit and not the LTD offering, this fighter was outclassed by it's IJA/IJN oponents, but [like the Hawker Typhoon], was a class act as an FTC/Ground Attack bird and often used as a liason with either 5th Air Force groups or even Kiwi Air Force Corsairs.
These aircraft were operated from the Darwin area [of Northern Australia], or from New Guinea, or Borneo in support roles.
Secondly:
The CA-5 Wirraway, [ok it may look like a A-6 Texan], it is the Australian Licience Built N.A.16 ans named Wirraway by it's re-designer, the aircraft subject is unique to the history of the RAAF as the only 1 of it's type to destroy a Zero in combat, the pilot of this aircraft later flew the Boomerang above, when the Squadron replaced it's Wirraways for Boomerangs.
The Wirraway was religated to second line duties but a few stayed with some Squadrons [as hacks], untill the end of hostilities.
This is an OOP conversion based on the A6 Texan kit.
Both of these birds are finished in the RAAF Dark Earth / Foliage Green over RAAF Sky Blue.

If I hang around here I am going to get an education and the bug is about to bite to build another wingy thing. I fear that I may be going over to the dark side.
Great examples for sure. I like the second one very much.

Dave,
Thanks for the kind words.
If you do another 'Wingy Thingy' in RAAF service, I'd be hapy to assist with info on it for you, Cliff did one of the RAAF's 'Wingy Thingy's' as a break from the norm and did an excellent job on it.
I "thinker" outside the Wingy Thingy's from time to time, just for a break.

Great job Rob. The Boomerang was a pretty decent bird for being designed in such a short time.
