This is Aviatik D.I (Lo) 115.32 flown by Frank Linke-Crawford. The machine collapsed during a dogfight on 31 July, 1918, taking the pilot to his doom. The 1/48 scale model was built OOB from the Flashback "Berg D.I", brittle decals and all. Rigging is .007" stainless wire. Phil "Silverback" Schenfeld

Very colorful. I like these old Bi-planes. These planes must have been a real bugger to fly. There seems to be no unobstructed froward view at all. Thanks for sharing.

"how long did the paintjob take to do?" On the real plane, the hex pattern was hand painted. The Flashback kit provides the scheme as a series of large decals. For instance, the top of the wing is given as one large slab of hex with a separate "L". Unfortunately, the decals are brittle and prone to welding themselves to the airplane at the first touch. This one took several hours of floating decals in a layer of soapsuds just to get them into place. Should I ever do another, I will certainly cut the decals into more manageable chunks. Flashback thoughtfully provided a large number of individual hexes in all the colors to facilitate the totally expected decal repairs. Other than that, this is a sweet build.
