just a tip for military (or not ;D) ),
if you can get an wrecked PC power supply ( big hot heavy box inside your PC...eheh) open it and you'll find tons of wires (for engines, gear compartiments) and small metal pins for almost anything !
also for a great realistic mesh wire, use some old splatter guard, this kind of stuff:

if it's used normally it's black.- it's great, shapes easily .

Great! Thanks for the tip! Also, stripped phone wire has several different color wires in it that are a great size to put to use in building models.

try some hardware stores, with old PCs and you can easily get the power supplies, i got 2 for free!
