I would love to see some of the figures some of you guys build and paint. The figures are my weakest point in my modeling. Does any one like to do figures?

Does any one like to do figures? NoLOL ;D Some day I am going to get it done right. I try to do one and I feel very good with the way it looks. Then I go to a site and see some of the other examples and I groan. I have to do one of two things, either stop painting figures and stop going to the sites where all the fabulous work is displayed. ;D

When I finished that Gun Truck, it ws suggested that there should be a couple of figures to make the diorama come alive. I agree, but my figure painting leaves a lot to be desired.
So, new years resolution ... learn! ...

I love painting figures. You can see some of mine in the Diorama section titled "Hasn't got a name yet" I think that is where I excell the most really... I'd be glad to help as much as possible

While I have a huge appreciation for anyone who can capture the nuances of figure painting, they aren't my thing. I occasionally will attempt to paint one, thinking this time I can do it... but alas, I have never been able to do it well enough to satisfy myself. Give me something mechanical... Let's see some organic replication here folks... - Mark

One thing I must ask. I would prefer to use water base colors. I know they are not the most reccommeded but the smell is my biggest wory as I live in an apartment with no descent ventilation. I am an asmatic so the fumes will not cut it for me.

Animal I'd love to. I'm putting my Merkava off until after my wedding, so to fill the void I'm going to be doing a vignette with DML's new Gen 2 Figs... Desperate defence, Korsun Pocket... soooo.. I can take pictures of my progress as I go along! Anything to help! In the meantime one helpful resource is the new book by Osprey, "Modelling Waffen~SS figures" by Calvin Tan. It's a great book and goes into alot of detail regarding modifying figs and cammo patterns as we know SS cammo is something of an enigma! watch out for the pics I'll start a thread in here for ya, though I'm no pro by any means

sorry for the double post... Charles, when it comes to figure painting Acrylics are the most popular. While the pros tend to use Windsor oils or Valljeo (sp??) acryls I use Model Master. Acryls are the best for drying time and handling. Nothing like having to do a wash on a face and waiting for a night for it to dry! Water based paints are what I'll be using

I use Model Masters enamels. I tried the Acrylics but did not like them. Clogged up the air brush and dries too fast. I guess I'm too old school.

nope, you'll be going old school for figure painting... only thing you'll need an ab for (though rattle cans are just as useful) is the priming. You'll need a standard sized brush (I'll get the technical numbers for ya later) and a couple of 000 brushes for the highlighting.
