G'say, Here is how the detail was applied to the cockpit of my current Beaufighter project: The Panel film was painted on the reverse side with RED PAINT, before being fixed to the kit panel screen as this is a nightfighter version the red paint makes the instrument panel show much clearer than applied straight to the plastic. The control levers on Port side of the cockpit tub sidewalls are made from wire, with white glue to create the knobs prior to painting, other levers in the cockpit are from scrap PE sets. The Starboard side window lever is made from a piece of copper wire, there are a few wire control levers and scrap PE fitted to this sidewall of the cockpit tub. The above pix show the finished detail work.

Must admit they look better in red than in white I normally paint the panel black then rub a white pencil over the raised detail
but i like your idea of the control levers , i'll give that a try
