Yes they are both the older Tamiya kits, my 223 does not have the PE with it, but both have the plastic mesh in them, the interior colour is Biege Green that I have used on these two projects. I intend to do the 223 as a Nth African campaine and the 250/9 has the ambush scheme as an option, which will give me someting to practice on before going back to the Tiger I kit I have laying around.

bill if you look closely at the tracks, you'll find you wont need them! I'm hooked on Fruils too, and boy oh boy these Dragon ones are easy and they have hollowed out guide teeth already, they are crisp in molding too!

I can't wait to finish this dio so I can get started on it, I'm thinkin I might make that kit my competiton piece... depends on if I can get it done in time (without rushing it!!!).. now that I got my little stand with alligator teeth (I put silicone on them to stop the teeth from wrecking anything) I can better work with PE.. woot

Hey James, You got any kind of file?? File down the teeth some and wrap the jaws with elctrical tape, that is if your silicon doesn't work. The electrical tape is kinda rubbery so it makes a good soft grip.Oh, and thx for the track tip, if u say it is just as good as Fruils then ok by me. I built a skylite in my bedroon ceiling,.......the upstairs neighbors are furious.

well I mean why spend so much on the fruils? you get a nice jig to make the sag of the tracks right, there are hollowed out guide teeth, and they look good according to the Trojca book I bought and the specs he gives...

Bill,
The Tamiya kit of the 223 is dated 1975, so it's old, Tamiya stamp all their kits with a production date on the sprue, about 8 years ago they moved a lot of the production facilities offshore and when the kits are reissued the production stamps are blacked out.
The Tamiya 250/9 production date stamp is 1979.

Oh, how can that be, Tamiya have something like 2000 kits of all scales and type unreleased.
5 years ago I was informed by the Production Manager of Airfix's Asian H.Q. that to produce a mould for a kit in 48 scale costs $350,000.00 calculated on an average kit of 100 parts.
Tamiya have a policy on their production runs of 10 years, with a limited re-issue 5 sometimes 10 years later. Or a complete re-tool of a kit [Lancaster with spinning props], after 30 years, with most of their popular kits they are re produced every 2 years, some have PE added to them some have a different decal production conducted in Mexico.
Also take into consideration that the Hobby within Australia is NOT on the agenda's of model kit manufacturers, simply because of population and limited selection by the relivant wholesalers of model kits.

amen, I'm really finding that there is nothing wrong with Tamiya other than people say it's old! So what.. if people are still buying them today, it must say something about their quality, yeah you might have to get an update set for it, but who cares? Most people still do that with the newer Dragon stuff. Yeah it's nice and pretty with all the glittering prizes inside. But they have become really challenging kits, and to me have really taken the fun outta modelling IMHO

Sry to step on toes, didn't mean to . Just going by my VERY few examples, I already know that they make more of a variety than anybody else and make 'em good too. But, going by my standard of a casual model maker, I walk into the LHS and see a Tamiya Tiger I for $44.00 and then see the same type Tiger from DML that has better....everything, at a cost of $37.00 you gotta know I am going for the DML one. That is what I base my own opinion on. Now if someone askes me who makes the most kits and makes 'em all good?? TAMIYA And who makes the best airplanes overall? TAMIYA Which one would I buy if Tamiya had a FW190a-8 and DML came out with a FW190a-8? DML Do you see where I am coming from? ;D Most of the kits in my stash are Tamiya, if we didn't have Tamiya the model industry would probably die out. I just look at it from what I think is a practical side, get the most bang for your buck. And when it comes to paying for a good airplane kit Tamiya is the best bang! I just think Tamiya could do alot better. IMOHO!!!!!!! (in my own honest opinion). A moot point really, I will always be paying for Tamiya products, they just have so much of everything, they won't be losing my business anytime soon.
Anyway, Have fun, Bill

Sorry Guy's,
I didn't mean to open a can of worms on the model subject, I was simply putting the facts as I knew of them when in the retail side of the hobby. Ok the two kits for this GB are old, but big deal a lot of my stash is old OOP kits, I base my model collection on the subject and yes I had the oppertunity to get a lot of [old] but good model kits, some were fre to a good home.
In 35scale anything, I have the original Tamiya kits of the SAS Jeep, Willy's GP Jeep with trailer, the two for this GB, the LRDG Chev and the Quad Field gun 3-1 kit and the Universal Carrier. I have two Italeri kits, the WC 54 Ambulance and the 30Cwt Chev Original kits.
To be honest I don't normaly explode with beating my own trumpet, I have several contacts who have large collections of kits who offer me first choice when they kull some of the stash. I have several 48 aircraft kits that are OOP and most are still sealed, but that's another area.
Once again sorry for opening up a problem

Hey Rob!!! ;D No biggie, we all have our preferences, supposed to y'know, otherwise wouldn't be human. I'll be honest with ya, if I had contacts like yours I wouldn't care who made them. My stash is very small but it still kinda fun to sit and look at it all, I envy you Rob!!! ; (u no, sometimes I re-arrange 'em! shhhhh! ......seriously!)
Have fun, Bill
